My favourite dinner party albums

Recently, I wrote a post about how to host a dinner party for under $50. The key for me, in any event I host, is setting the mood. Ambience can make or a break a night, no matter how much money you spend. Even if you're serving Wagyu, if the lighting is bad, the environment sterile, and the music lack lustre, no one is going to walk away with a memorable experience.  Like I said, people won't remember what you served them or what you talked about, but they'll always remember how you made them feel. 

As such, I'm always scouring the internet for "that album". You know the ones, they're equally sexy, chic, interesting and dynamic, all in one. You can put them on from start to finish and with each passing song, the mood continues to evolve, flow and build. 

Here are my go to's when hosting dinner parties, gatherings, parties or romantic evenings in:

Alina Bariz and Galimatias "Urban Flora"

Think: dreamy, ethereal, soft. Total love making music.

Pete Rock featuring 9th Wonder "Class is in Session"

Think: music you'll hear at a wine bar in Brooklyn that's probably too cool for you.

Blu "Below the Heavens"

Think: Paying homage to 80's and 90's hip hop in a jazzy and soulful style. 

Leon Bridges "Coming Home"

Think: Retro soul so good you might feel like you've gone back in time. 

Binary Star "Masters of the Universe"

Think: Reflective and nostalgic storytelling. 

Guru "JazzMatazz"

Think: soulful jazz driven beats with fluid vocals.
