So....you like tacos?

Ok, so a glaringly obvious pairing for tacos is always beer or margs. However, if you're a savage like me and and have an inexplicable need to pair wine with literally everything - I've got you covered with four delightful wines that'll keep those taste buds salivating, cut through spice and be super crushable to drink after your 6th or 7th taco. (let's be honest)

Cristia Collection, 2016, Ventoux

This is a delightful blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah hailing from the Southern Rhone Valley, and has surprising femininity. It's super delicate, but also incredibly fruit and acid driven, with low to medium tannin which is perfect for everything going on in the taco food group. At $16, the price also works too for cruising through one or three bottles on Taco Tuesday.

Township 7, 2016 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, Blue Terrace Vineyard

It just wouldn't be fitting if I didn't include a couple unconventional suggestions. This has been a long standing favourite of mine and for very good reason. I describe this wine as slutty, because it is so unbelievably silky, aromatic and sexy, there are just no other suitable descriptors. This is barrel fermented, treated to battonage (the lees - or dead yeast cells - left in barrel, stirred through daily/ multiple times daily to impart a creamy mouthfeel and flavour), and then aged another 7 months in barrel resulting in the most intoxicating aromas and flavours - butter poached pineapples, the juiciest, ripest mangoes - with this you'll want an oilier fish, with a fruit salsa. Heaven.

Three Sisters, 2016 Gewurztraminer, Naramata Bench

Another unusual suggestion, came about by interviewing the winemaker/owner Matt Mekulic (have you seen my vlog series yet?) - who suggested seafood/fish poached with citrus as possible food pairings with this wine. This isn't your typical Gewurz - this is fermented on its skins, resulting in a luscious, sunset coloured wine, and - tannin. Yes, it's unexpected, but so versatile with so many dishes.

The Hatch Screaming Frenzy, 2017, Rosé, West Kelowna

I say this all the time and I'll say it again - if you're ever stumped for a food/wine pairing - just go with rosé. This one will not disappoint. A 50/50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and gamay - it's a delightful summer drink. Bright, fresh, dry, vibrant, juicy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
